The server was upgraded which resolved all the problems.

I ran into low disc space so I upgraded. Since the upgrade nothing works. I have logged about 8 different tickets to get the matter resolved but to date nothing has happened.

Heads-up requested

My "pissedconsumer" message was not about HostGator, it was about my current web host. My only problem with HostGator at the time is that they do not provide a customer contact email, only chat. I'm usually working on two or three things at a time and do not have time to hang on the line for chat. I just want to send a quick message. I do not want to have to set up a password account just to ask a quick question.

User's recommendation: Not enough exsperience yet tomake a recommendation.

TERRIBLE ISP, BUYER BEWARE!!!

I bought a 3 year contract with these guys and renewed it once. Their servers were attacked my site was erased and a viagra ad was butg in its place. I noticed it too late to get the site restored. The keep one backup of the daily, weekly and monthly backups. If you go on vacation and check in with your site after 30 days and its gone then they will tell you its the owner of the site that is respobilbe for a backup. Of course this major point is buried in a lengthy T&C's that one doesn't normal read. When it seems to me that it is a specific rider that a new client should have tom sign. You can not expect reasonably conformity with clients expectations from Host Gator. The industry norm on security and backups does not seem to apply to apply to Host Gator. For example Host Gator will let a bot try 200 logins before blocking it. 200 attempts!!! I would think if one takes the 200 most common passwords you could access 20% of Host Gator's clients websites and erase them. Host Gator finds this acceptable. If you go with Host Gator you will likely pay dearly for assuming they would conform with the usual and neccesary standards of Internet hosting service. Host Gator will cost you your business if you are not careful. Buyer BEWARE!

Worst Customer Service In The Industry

Hostgator has zero customer service. The reps have a list of excuses for why the servers are down and they just give one off of the sheet. You call back via voice or chat and are given different reasons each time. Over the busy Christmas holiday season, our VPS went down. First call we were told they were doing maintenance at noon on a Friday during the Christmas shopping season. We were told they would be down most the day. No warning of maintenance. After several hours we contacted them again. This time we were given a different excuse. Third call and we were told one of our many sites on our VPS had been hacked so they shut the entire server down. No warning. Had we known this during the first call in we could have been working to get the server backup. We lost the majority of a busy business day. This same issue continued to happen several times over the next few weeks. Come to find out they left a copy of the infected file on the server when they said it had been removed. Of course this contributed to our server going down multiple times. We submitted support tickets that went unanswered. If we ever received a reply, they promised to get to the bottom of it and resolve the issue. We would then reply back but they didn’t respond again. Their servers are extremely slow and easily hacked into. Of course they blame it all on the customer, even with a dedicated server or VPS. Hostgator firewalls are very weak, if they exist at all. Hostgator might be cheap, but that is the type of service they offer. It is interesting that once all our sites were moved to a different hosting company we never had those issues again. Consider anyone but Hostgator for hosting. Unless you don’t mind slow unreliable servers that will go down and cause you to be offline for an extended period of time.

The worst customer service imaginable

I honestly don't understand how companies with service this bad survive. I've been online for 24 years professionally and personally. I own numerous websites and blogs and have tried them all. Well, almost all of them. No one even comes close to the horrible experiences, not experience, experiences, I have had with HostGator. GoDaddy, although not perfect, is 100 times better than this company. And if GoDaddy ever makes a mistake, they fix it and compensate you for the inconvenience. The compensation I'm getting from HostGator is we are working on it, we can not tell you how long it will take, we can not tell you why we blocked your site as opposed to calling you to inform you there was an issue. Please allow up to 3 days for us to fix the problem we created for you. Not so much as an appology. And don't even think about transfering your URL somewhere else. They hold you captive FOREVER. I literally could go into minute details but I've made my point. As a professional site designer, developer and builder, I recommend virtually anyone other than this company. They are beyond the worst. They are in a category all their own. Horrible beyond belief.

Terrible company to work with

We have been using them for years now and they have tried many times to extort us into upgrading. They will shut your site down as soon as it finally begins to receive a decent amount of traffic and don't ever expect to run a Wordpress site on there as any more than a few plugins and they will shut it down for that claiming it is using too many resources. If you get randomly brute forced by someone, they will shut down your website and blame it on you (ignoring the fact that someone just tried to attack the website). Instead, they keep the website offline for many many many hours at a time claiming that took too many resources and you have to fix the glitch, even though there is no fix to make. Every single time they will try to tell you that your site needs a dedicated server. I am talking, even Joe Shmoe with a personal blog or a basic e-commerce site that barely competes against anyone else. They try their best to up-sale you as hard as they can for everything you don't need. On top of it all, good luck trying to get a resolution. You talk to their admins and they take forever to get back to you. They could care less that your website is offline. Someone should take their website offline for a day at a time and let them see how that feels, and how that affects them monetarily. You can complain to anyone higher up because their contact options just try to get you to their live chat which leads you to someone who says they can't help you, and you have to talk to the admins via email. There is no "Click here to file a complaint". If you want to lose your hair and end up in the hospital for high blood pressure and a total loss in profit, sure, go ahead and sign up for Hostgator. They will be happy to make it happen for you.
