Fraud

HostGator has absolutely no server security. I am paying for SiteLock through HostGator as a re-seller.

HostGator claimed they had SiteLock scan and fix the hacking issues on my website and SiteLock said HostGator never made any such request nor was any scan conducted due to a lack of the promised request from HostGator.

The result is that Google de-listed my site permanently from their search engine without reprieve. This damaged my business irreparably and continues to damage it.

HOSTGATOR SUCKS BIGTIME

HOSTGATOR SUCKS BIGTIME - Image 3

This is the worst web hosting EVER. One Star is too much for this company.

It's taken gazillion phone calls to get set up, including opening a dispute at Chase Bank after paying for a 3-year Baby Plan (good till 2027): (1) It took 6 weeks to migrate my website (2) Now, every 2 weeks I get HostGator emails threatening to SUSPEND my account because of a (nonexistent) billing error. Two weeks ago they suspended my website before I was contacted. Today I'm reassured again that they won't keep bothering me, but I'll believe it when I see it.

HOSTGATOR, DON'T BOTHER ME WITH SCREWUPS AND JUST LET MY WEBSITE RUN TILL 2027. To anyone who reads this, you'll be sorry if you sign up with this company.

Cons:
  • Are a bunch of idiots

Preferred solution: HostGator should cease badgering me every 2 weeks about SUSPENDING my account/website as I have paid for service to April 2027.

User's recommendation: You're asking for headaches if you sign up with these idiots.

Horrid customer service on a sub-par product

HostGator - Horrid customer service on a sub-par product

I received a notice that my domain would be renewed on 7/13/24 unless I cancelled. On 6/28/24, they ran my credit card.

I contacted them with my notice to cancel (I no longer use the site) and they essentially said, 'Too bad.' I was charged $300 for a site I don't need because they ran the charge 2 1/2 weeks before the deadline, before I even had a chance to cancel.

There is zero chance I will ever use them again or recommend them to anyone. That's on top of the issues I had with setup and maintenance.

They cancelled my domain by accident and my ecommerce business is down for 2 days now

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

my ecommerce website was down, I contacted the support, some hours later they cancelled my domain subscription, despite I showed them the receipt saying I paid and prolonged the service until 2025. It has been 2 days since my website is down, support was saying they have a ticket open and admins are working on it. Now I cannot even contact the support, since they deactivated customer support chat.

HostGator SCAM

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review Feb 14, 2024

I bought 3 domains from HostGator in January 2024. I did not ask for anything else.

Just 3 domains. I was charged over £154 for these (because HostGator automatically charged me for products I did not request). I then cancelled the entire service via HostGator Chat. I could not get a refund although they claim a full refund is given in the first 30 days.

However, I got assurance that my account was cancelled and I would NEVER be charged by HostGator again, as a result. Despite that assurance, on checking my MasterCard Debit account, in February (a few days ago), I noticed HostGator charged me £52.72, (although I HAVE NO SERVICES AT HostGator. I have no websites, and the domains I bought I cancelled/switched off, so I would not be charged for them in January 2025.) I immediately contacted HostGator on 'Chat' requesting a refund of my £52.72, and written confirmation this time (instead of verbal, on their Chat platform as before, that they will not charge me for anything again). The HostGator person on Chat, who was looking at my account, then asked for my email address and PIN, which I gave.

That person then cut me off 'Chat'. I then received 2 emails from HostGator. The first email 'Thank [me] for [my] new purchase. (words to that effect).

The second email sent me a 'Change of Password' link. Now, please understand: 1) I bought NOTHING that day. 2) I did NOT ask for a change of password --- or anything else, EXCEPT MY REFUND. So now, it looks like not only has HostGator fraudulently charged me £52.72 (after I had already lost £154 + to it, for products I no longer want due to already overcharging me, and refusing to refund me, although it claims to do so, within 30 days if the customer is dissatisfied, it seems to have on the spot charge me another amount (I am afraid to open those emails in case there is another scam waiting for me), ALTHOUGH, I HAVE NO SERVICES OR LIVE PRODUCTS AT HostGator).

Over the past two days, I have sent 2 complaints to HostGator's head addressI, with no reply. I have completed a survey yesterday, that HostGator sent me. In it I explained EVERYTHING, yet again, and Still I have not received a reply, nor my refunds. As I told HostGator, this is theft.

It is fraud, it is day-light robbery, and individuals would face consequences of the law for so doing, and so should HostGator. However, HostGator knows that it is ABOVE facing legal strife, so it will continue to treat customers as it has treated me.

PLEASE, PLEASE, STAY AWAY FROM HostGator EVERYONE. Don't say that you have not been warned.

My review is honest. I want also to add, however, that it is of no use to anyone trying to email support@***.com, billing@***.com, or any email address related to HostGator.

They will bounce.

They do not exist. They are only shown on the part of HostGator—another fraud on the part of HoatGator.

Unprofessional person in chat

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

my latest chat session with a agent was hard to believe.

The person was very unprofessional and did not let me rate the experience afterwards and closed the chat immediately.

No manners, a ton of typos...they offer a discount but force the customer to share their credit card details. Very shady chat session.

Rates went through the roof, I have no idea whats going on with this company now, they used to be very good.

They Stopped Providing Support

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Hostgator started charging to do third party updates from MySQL for instance. This is just a button click on their end, but they refuse to do the updates while they try to trick you into thinking you need their most expensive supposed service.

Then they said they would escalate my request and someone would be in touch with in 2 hours. That was a flat out lie. On top of that, they changed all my nameservers and made themselves unreachable. Meanwhile, they collect my autopay which I am about to switch off and terminate service with them as anyone reading this should do the same.

They have become a bunch of unethical criminals who will charge you for hosting and not provide it while they upsell you security packages that they are able to break into and they do. They should be run out of town!

Turned off my website

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

In Sept they charged what I thought were fraudulent charges. Tried contacting HostGator, but almost impossible as they never came back with any reason.

Amex stopped payments. Only after that did HostGator come back with any explanation. I then authorized payment and they received payment for Oct 2023 to Oct 2024. In Feb 2024 they said they refunded the money to my Amex card and if I wanted the website to be active I had to pay them.

Their refund never showed up.

I have lots of discussions with them and Amex. To this date, it is impossible to get the website back active and HostGator wants me to pay them the charges again.

Discussions with their chat, emails, etc, have not provided any results. I would be leary of HostGator.

Don't trust HostGator with anything important

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I used a HostGator shared server for several years without major issues, apart from bounced emails to large companies. To solve this issue, I 'upgraded' to a virtual private server.

During the migration, various issues resulted in loss of email service, and ultimately to the loss of my website. A site that had 400 pages of high quality content has been replaced with a single page that says "Under Maintenance".

HostGator support has made up various stories as to why this has happened. Their support can barely write comprehensible English which compounds the problem.

Hostgator does not refund a cancelled service

Hostgator does not refund a cancelled service
Updated by user Apr 16, 2023

Customer calls or chats did not give any result

Original review Apr 16, 2023
I had registered a domain name with Hostgator.com on 10/12/2022 (they have their own Registry) and signed for Web Hosting services with them and started to be spammed with phone calls immediately, so I called the Hostgator customer service and they suggested their Who is Privacy service. I asked the representative specifically if I could cancel it as well if I cancel other services and be refunded if the calls continued.

He assured me that they would cancel everything I want cancelled, so I signed for the Who Is Privacy service that they offered. As the calls continued, I cancelled the domain name and Web Hosting service and everything associated with it, naturally Who Is Privacy as well, on 10/17/2022. They did not refund me for this Who Is Privacy service, although I asked for a refund. They continue to charge me for a who is privacy service for a domain that does not exist anymore, and they claim that it is their policy.

In other words, Hostgator charges unfairly for a service that is cancelled and is not needed. I wanted to let everybody know of their unfair charge policy that their representative is unaware of and which is basically a charge for a non-existent service.

Customer Service Live Chat and absurd telephone wait

Hi there,

I am regretting the hosting plan paid a couple of days ago and considering going with another hosting company.

Ive had two hosting plans for a couple of years only to find out that I couldve paid for a Shared Baby Plan and include both my domains there.

I contacted Hostgator to request an explanation several times but the wait times were absurd so gave up.

I then contacted Hostgator again because I did not pay for a hosting plan and was reconsidering moving forward with having to pay. I contacted your line and got someone fairly quickly in your sales dept.

He obviously made the charge and I paid for the 12 month Shared Plan. I was told that both domains were going to be on one account and that I should wait for a couple of days for migration to occur.

I did that and today when I accessed the portal I only saw one domain name there.

I decided to contact Hostgator via chat and got someone by the name of Patrick who was very passive aggressive. I am waiting for him to send the transcript over to me because at this point I was fed up and wanted to speak to someone instead of going back and forth on a live chat.

I am now waiting for support and its been a whopping 43 minutes that Ive been on hold.

I would like my money back at this point.
