I bought 3 domains from HostGator in January 2024. I did not ask for anything else.
Just 3 domains. I was charged over £154 for these (because HostGator automatically charged me for products I did not request). I then cancelled the entire service via HostGator Chat. I could not get a refund although they claim a full refund is given in the first 30 days.
However, I got assurance that my account was cancelled and I would NEVER be charged by HostGator again, as a result. Despite that assurance, on checking my MasterCard Debit account, in February (a few days ago), I noticed HostGator charged me £52.72, (although I HAVE NO SERVICES AT HostGator. I have no websites, and the domains I bought I cancelled/switched off, so I would not be charged for them in January 2025.) I immediately contacted HostGator on 'Chat' requesting a refund of my £52.72, and written confirmation this time (instead of verbal, on their Chat platform as before, that they will not charge me for anything again). The HostGator person on Chat, who was looking at my account, then asked for my email address and PIN, which I gave.
That person then cut me off 'Chat'. I then received 2 emails from HostGator. The first email 'Thank [me] for [my] new purchase. (words to that effect).
The second email sent me a 'Change of Password' link. Now, please understand: 1) I bought NOTHING that day. 2) I did NOT ask for a change of password --- or anything else, EXCEPT MY REFUND. So now, it looks like not only has HostGator fraudulently charged me £52.72 (after I had already lost £154 + to it, for products I no longer want due to already overcharging me, and refusing to refund me, although it claims to do so, within 30 days if the customer is dissatisfied, it seems to have on the spot charge me another amount (I am afraid to open those emails in case there is another scam waiting for me), ALTHOUGH, I HAVE NO SERVICES OR LIVE PRODUCTS AT HostGator).
Over the past two days, I have sent 2 complaints to HostGator's head addressI, with no reply. I have completed a survey yesterday, that HostGator sent me. In it I explained EVERYTHING, yet again, and Still I have not received a reply, nor my refunds. As I told HostGator, this is theft.
It is fraud, it is day-light robbery, and individuals would face consequences of the law for so doing, and so should HostGator. However, HostGator knows that it is ABOVE facing legal strife, so it will continue to treat customers as it has treated me.
PLEASE, PLEASE, STAY AWAY FROM HostGator EVERYONE. Don't say that you have not been warned.
- There are no pros that i can see
- Hostgator is fraudulent it does not do as it promises

Verified Reviewer | Houston, TexasHostgator does not refund a cancelled service
Customer calls or chats did not give any result
He assured me that they would cancel everything I want cancelled, so I signed for the Who Is Privacy service that they offered. As the calls continued, I cancelled the domain name and Web Hosting service and everything associated with it, naturally Who Is Privacy as well, on 10/17/2022. They did not refund me for this Who Is Privacy service, although I asked for a refund. They continue to charge me for a who is privacy service for a domain that does not exist anymore, and they claim that it is their policy.
In other words, Hostgator charges unfairly for a service that is cancelled and is not needed. I wanted to let everybody know of their unfair charge policy that their representative is unaware of and which is basically a charge for a non-existent service.
- Some customer representatives are nice
- Undeserved charge
- Unaware representatives
- Bad refund policy
Preferred solution: Full refund

Customer Service Live Chat and absurd telephone wait
Hi there,
I am regretting the hosting plan paid a couple of days ago and considering going with another hosting company.
Ive had two hosting plans for a couple of years only to find out that I couldve paid for a Shared Baby Plan and include both my domains there.
I contacted Hostgator to request an explanation several times but the wait times were absurd so gave up.
I then contacted Hostgator again because I did not pay for a hosting plan and was reconsidering moving forward with having to pay. I contacted your line and got someone fairly quickly in your sales dept.
He obviously made the charge and I paid for the 12 month Shared Plan. I was told that both domains were going to be on one account and that I should wait for a couple of days for migration to occur.
I did that and today when I accessed the portal I only saw one domain name there.
I decided to contact Hostgator via chat and got someone by the name of Patrick who was very passive aggressive. I am waiting for him to send the transcript over to me because at this point I was fed up and wanted to speak to someone instead of going back and forth on a live chat.
I am now waiting for support and its been a whopping 43 minutes that Ive been on hold.
I would like my money back at this point.

Verified ReviewerNot providing access to my account and refusing to cancel service
After realizing that my company has been paying for 2 Hostgator services for several years I contacted customer support to see if they could help me locate the account so I could access it and cancel the services. I was told that they could not cancel the service or provide access to the account until I provided screenshots of the bank statement for my credit card, pics of my photo ID, the email address that was used to open the account and the welcome email I received when I opened the account (see screenshot for details).
I was unable to recall the email address for the account, but I provided a screenshot of the section of my bank statement showing the charges with my full name and last 5 digits of my credit card visible, and photos of my ID. This account was created at least 10 years ago and at the time of my first contact with customer service I could not remember the email address I used. I then received another reply from customer service telling me that I needed to download the bank statements and provide the ID of the person who opened the Amex account for our company and provide the invoices or welcome email that are being sent to an email address I have no access to. The card used to create the account is a sub card of the main Amex card and has my name on it.
Since I didnt have the email address I asked if they could locate the account with my credit card number, but I was told that they didn't have the ability to do that. After searching through old laptop backups, I eventually found the email address for the account and sent it to customer support with the other information they requested. In the next reply from customer support I was told that the screens shots weren't enough and that I needed to download the bank statements from Amex and provide the ID of the main credit card holder for the Amex account. Keep in mind that this charge is on the statement of a credit card with my name on it, the screenshots are from the Amex corporate card holder web portal with my name at the top, they have my photo ID, the domain name associated with the hosting account is in a godaddy account with my name and names servers pointing to Hostgator and yet they still need more proof of ownership.
I am posting this review to let people know that this is what you will deal with if you lose track of an account even if you are the one who opened the account with your credit card. After finally realizing that they are not going to cancel the service the issue is going to be handled by our credit card company.
Before you waste time and money with Hostgator, consider using Squarespace, Wix, Webflow or AWS.
Please excuse typos or any other errors. This review was written quickly and I am trying to not waste any more time than I need to with Hostgator.

Their hosting is incredibly slow, their support is the worst!
Host Gator's services are the worst. Their host is terribly slow, and their support is awful.
During the calls of the support, you can hear kids screaming in the background, as if the support team is not working in office, but probably in home. It is unprofessional, poor and devastating at the same time. I expect for my website to run smoothly and if I ever have any problem, I expect a professional team, that will help me solve the issue, but not people working from the comfort of their homes, cooking and with kids running in the background, you can't expect that.
That results in their poor service, as the support team doesn't have a "know-how" nor expertise to help you. Usually, on every call you get a different person speaking to you, and not of one of them is coordinated.
The hosting is so slow, and they don't do anything about it, but just promise something that they can't finish it.
Terrible service!

Verified ReviewerPromises not Kept
I placed an order on 2/22/22. I had to send, call, and chat each time to find out the status.
Each time there was a different person and a different answer. I still do not have a migrated deliverable. I have no confidence that I will never do business with this company again with my full refund. The representatives were rude and refused to escalate the call to a supervisor.
I was told that there was no supervisor at the job site. Any labor law requires a supervisor to be available on call or in-person; when I asked to speak to a domestic US Representative, I was told they don't have one. Some higher power there told me the only way I could get my plan restored, even though I have been trying to get it up since February, was to give them more money. They described this sophisticated process of reinstating but never shared the sophisticated process of migrating from one hosting firm to another.
I pay to speak to a human, not a bot, or read fricking articles.

INCREASE AWARENESS TO POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS
I have been a customer of Hostgator since 2012, They have hosted 5 of my websites that provides health education awareness, information and injury prevention services. However recently they have been targeting my websites suggesting that I am using too much space and data.
I resolve those down to nothing, no money, no ecommerce, no data or email collection. Just basic website. This has gone on since April 2020. Just two weeks ago they said my websites were fine, now they suspended them all.
I did repairs that they say might not be the problem and they have not responded back to me. I called they said to respond to emails, which I did. I call back because I hard no response from the emails. But nothing.
Meanwhile they take monthly fees from my account and I have no websites. Also I checked the shared server and they have problematic and inappropriate websites that could be causing issues where ours are health education.
User's recommendation: BE AWARE
